چکیده

This study used homogenised mean, maximum, and minimum daily temperatures from 12 stations located in Brno, Czechia, during the 2011–2020 period to analyse heat waves (HW) their impact on canopy urban island (UHI). HWs were recognized as at least three consecutive days with Tx ≥ 30 °C urban–rural intra-urban differences measures analysed. To express contribution UHI, we calculated UHI intensities (UHII) separately outside of determine magnitude (HM). Our results show that all HW are significantly higher areas. UHII is mostly positive, average 0.65 °C; however, day-time clearly greater (1.93 °C). Furthermore, amplified HWs, since HM almost 0.5 LCZ 2 it even 0.9 °C. Land use parameters correlate well night, but not day, indicating other factors can affect air temperature extremity. Considering a long-term context, extremity has been increasing recently region, together frequency circulation types favour occurrence last decade mainly contributed this increase.

Urban Heat Island

We are all familiar with the fact that cities are generally warmer than the surrounding, more rural areas. We see it referenced most nights in our television weather reports. It is especially significant on nights with clear skies and light winds which favor radiational cooling. This is most significant in the rural areas but in the city, the excess heat absorbed during the day and the local he...

Vulnerability to heat waves: Impact of urban expansion scenarios on urban heat island and heat stress in Paris (France)

Heat-wave risk in cities is determined both by regional climate evolutions and by cities size and shape change, because they can impact heat island effect. Land planning and urban transport policies, due to their long-lasting impact on cities shape, can therefore play a role in heat-wave risk mitigation. However, the link between these policies and resulting change in urban heat island is far f...

The urban heat island and its impact on heat waves and human health in Shanghai.

With global warming forecast to continue into the foreseeable future, heat waves are very likely to increase in both frequency and intensity. In urban regions, these future heat waves will be exacerbated by the urban heat island effect, and will have the potential to negatively influence the health and welfare of urban residents. In order to investigate the health effects of the urban heat isla...
